Kevin Hart was a guest on a recent episode of Ellen DeGeneres‘ “The Ellen Show” and he dished on all about his Oscar hosting controversy.
The 39-year-old comedian opened up about stepping down from hosting the Oscars after past homophobic tweets of his were brought to light again – and people called for him to apologize and no longer host the show.
Kevin said that when the tweets resurfaced, he decided to ignore them because it’s something he’s apologized for already and he’s no longer that guy.
Kevin and Ellen took the time to address the situation in an important conversation, with Kevin speaking directly about what happened and why he chose to step down from the hosting role.
Ellen also took the time to offer her thoughts on the matter involving her friend and giving her opinion on his decision.
“It’s 10 years old. This is stuff I’ve addressed and apologized for already,” Kevin shares. “That was a guy that was just looking for laughs and it was stupid and I don’t do that anymore.”
Kevin continues: “I don’t want to step on that stage and make that night about me and my past when you have people that have worked hard and are about to step on the stage for the first time and receive an award. I’m now taking away from all those moments.”
