No fewer than six members of a family in the Gitata Development Area of Nasarawa State have been paralysed by a strange disease, Northern City News has gathered. The eldest member of the family, Mr. Danlami Danladi, said his siblings were afflicted by the disease at the age of 18. Other members of the family afflicted by the disease include Asabe, who is married with five children; Pius, Maikasuwa, Danjuma and Cecelia.

Danladi disclosed that only the two youngest members of the family, Hanatu and Joshua, were free of the affliction. He informed our correspondent at the family compound in Gitata that their deceased parents also did not contract the strange ailment before their death.

He said, “Our parents did not die of this disease. They gave birth to eight of us and six of us have been paralysed by the mysterious ailment. When we were 18 years, we became paralysed, we don’t know how it happened.

“When my father died in 1990, it was our mother that was providing for us. Her death affected us more as we found it difficult to feed and take care of our medical treatment.”

Danladi further explained that he had sought medical solution to the problem to no avail, adding that various tests conducted on him and his siblings failed to reveal the cause of the problem. He added, “All of us went to the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi and Godiya Clinic, Jabba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after various tests, they told us that nothing was discovered. We pray that we will be healed of this mysterious disease one day.”

He called on the state and Federal Government as well as individuals to assist the family through the provision of foodstuffs and medical needs, adding that they could not fend for themselves due to their physical disability.

“I was repairing handsets, but now I cannot do the job because I have been paralysed and I pray that God will heal me and my brothers and sisters of the mysterious disease,” he said.

A resident, Mr. Shuaibu Ahmadu, explained that the people were surprised by the affliction and prayed to God to heal them.
