Joining the likes of Bob Marley, Jesse Stone, Leon Russell, Tom Jones, Marvin Gaye, Elton John and others in the Songwriters Hall of Fame is rapper Jay Z as he officially becomes the first hip-hop artist inducted!
The 46-year-old entertainer skipped the event as he awaits the arrival of the birth of his twins, but he was inducted into the Hall of Fame by former PresidentBarack Obama. One of the highlights of the rapper’s induction had to be the video speech given by the former president.

The inductees are usually nominated by their peers in the industry with the aim to preserve, honour and celebrate the legacy of the outstanding songwriters whose work has shaped and enriched the world’s culture.
To celebrate his induction, Jay Z’ streaming platform Tidal created a page that looked at the rapper’s career and influence on modern music.

The rapper also took to his official Twitter account to give a special shoutout to the people who have inspired him throughout his career.
