Trump On Trial: Historic Case Grips New York Courthouse

All 12 primary jurors and six alternates have been selected after nearly a week of extensive questioning.

Former President Donald Trump’s highly anticipated first criminal trial kicked off in New York at the Manhattan Criminal Court this week, sparking a media frenzy and protests, as the 12 jurors and six alternates were selected.

Trump is facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records—which he has pleaded not guilty to—for alleged reimbursement payments to ex-attorney Michael Cohen, who allegedly paid adult film actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 prior to the 2016 election to hide her alleged affair with Trump.

All 12 primary jurors—seven men and five women—and six alternates were selected this week after extensive questioning from Trump’s attorneys and prosecutors, while two previously selected jurors were dismissed.

Trump has allegedly dozed off multiple times throughout the first week of the trial, according to reporters inside the courtroom.

Judge Juan Merchan is set to hold a hearing Tuesday regarding Trump’s alleged violations of a gag order imposed—and later expanded—in March, after prosecutors identified seven more alleged violations and previously recommended he be fined $3,000.

Protesters hold a banner saying "No One Is Above The Law" outside of the courthouse.
