Katy Perry's Mega $225 Million Music Catalog Sale

Katy Perry, the renowned pop sensation, has recently inked a groundbreaking deal worth a staggering $225 million, marking a monumental milestone in her nearly two-decade-long musical journey.

At 38 years old, the iconic "Teenage Dream" singer struck an agreement with Litmus Music, which has now gained control over the rights to all five of her studio albums, as reported by Billboard. This significant deal has handed over to Litmus Music not only the rights to her beloved music but also the publishing rights to her entire discography, a true treasure trove for any music enthusiast.

It's worth noting that Universal Group will retain ownership of Katy's masters, cementing her legacy in the industry. Perry's journey in the world of music commenced in 2004 when she signed her very first record contract. However, it wasn't until 2008 when she made her breakthrough with the chart-topping hit, "I Kissed A Girl."

Ever since that fateful musical debut, the California-born superstar has continually etched her name in the annals of music history, achieving record-breaking single and album sales. According to Katy's biography on the American Idol website, she is among the elite group of just five artists in history to have sold 100 million certified units of her digital singles.

Following her sophomore album, "Teenage Dream," released in 2010, Katy achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the only female artist to match Michael Jackson with five number one singles from the same album.

Yet, it's been three long years since the global pop sensation treated her fans to a full-length album. During this hiatus, she diversified her career by serving as a judge on the popular television show, American Idol.

Interestingly, this move by Katy Perry to sell her music catalog echoes the recent decision made by Justin Bieber, who, after a 15-year recording career, parted ways with his entire music catalog for an astonishing $200 million. Bieber's music rights now belong to Blackstone-backed Hipgnosis Songs Capital, while his songs will continue to be managed by Universal Music, his loyal partner throughout his career.

Shifting gears from the professional to the personal, Katy Perry's life took a turn when she was married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012. Recently, Brand faced allegations of rape and sexual assault, sparking a wave of controversy. Although Katy has largely remained tight-lipped about her ex-husband's troubles, she hinted at a revelation in a 2013 Vogue interview, suggesting that she had discovered the "real truth" about Russell. However, she chose to keep this undisclosed truth locked away, seemingly waiting for the right moment.

In the realm of romance, Katy Perry moved forward from her past marriage to Russell Brand by finding love with "Lord of the Rings" star Orlando Bloom. The couple has been engaged since 2019 and is the proud parents of a daughter named Daisy Dove.

While Katy Perry's fans may be disappointed by the absence of a new studio album on the horizon for 2023, they can take solace in the anniversary editions of her albums "One Of The Boys," "Teenage Dream," and "Prism," released in June. These special editions, although still available individually on Katy's website, have proven to be immensely popular, with the box set completely selling out.
