Unai Emery has been sacked as Arsenal manager after the club's worst run of results since 1992.
The decision to sack the Spaniard who was hired as the replacement for long-term manager Arsene Wenger in the summer of 2018, came after Arsenal went without a win in their last seven matches following their Thursday's 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.
On Friday morning, Arsenal chiefs held a meeting to discuss his future following the loss and decided to sack him after his 18 months at the club.
A statement from Josh Kroenke, son of majority owner Stan, said: 'Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand.
'We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.'
A further statement from an Arsenal spokesperson added: 'The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required.'
Former Arsenal player, Freddie Ljungberg has been put in interim charge of the team. But it's understood the club is keen on bringing in Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo as Emery's replacement.

Characters In BBC’s Documentary On TB Joshua Unknown To Us – Synagogue Church

  The Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN) has countered the BBC documentary on the late Temitope Babatunde Joshua, known as TB Joshua, founder of SCOAN. SCOAN described the documentary against TB Joshua as unfounded, and that the characters interviewed in the report were unknown to the church. The church, in a statement signed by its Public Affairs Director, Mr Dare Adejumo, said the statement was aimed at disabusing public minds from the report. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the BBC released a highly controversial and damning documentary on the late TB Joshua on Monday, accusing him of various crimes, including rape, against some members. NBA Suspends Canada’s Joshua Primo For 4 Games For Exposing Himself To Women

  The NBA has suspended former San Antonio Spurs guard  Joshua Primo   for four games   ... after it says it found he exposed his private parts to multiple women. The league announced the ban on Friday morning ... saying an investigation into the free agent revealed he had "engaged in inappropriate and offensive behavior." NBA officials called his actions "conduct detrimental to the league." They did, however, note that they "did not find evidence that he engaged in any sexual or other misconduct apart from these brief exposures."
